Community Assets and Connections
Presenters: Larry Klinger, Allegheny Intermediate Unit; Julie O’Connor, Carson Valley Children’s Aid and Karen Shanoski, Center for Schools and Communities
Description: Many of us find that we can list the problems in our communities more quickly than our assets. We may not recognize the commonalities that exist among potential community asset partners, or how our assets can be used effectively. In this session we will outline strategies for finding the assets in your community, making meaningful connections and working in collaboration with community partners. The panelists will discuss ways that assets are identified and how partnerships and collaborative councils can be useful in making programs more connected and with responding to individual family requests, as well as addressing community-wide and systems issues.
